The Scarlet Letter literary analysis below is from semester one of my senior year. The piece goes through the gender criticism placed through out the novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I liked this essay because it made a very good argument and I feel it displayed my writing skills accurately. The assignment challenged me to write in a more mature way and use my resources in a different way than usual. I think this will help me with writing papers in the fall next year for college.
The literary analysis below is also from semester one of my senior year. It is a written response to questions I received as a summer assignment based on the book How to Read Literature Like a Professor. I liked this summer assignment a lot actually, and I feel that it was very beneficial to me to be introduced to different assignments that weren't cut and dry writing prompts. If I could do it again I would have picked different questions to respond to, that way I could challenge myself even more.
This assignment isn't a paper, but a presentation. It was put together for my semester two AP literature class. My teacher gave us the option to create any kind of creative journal, song, poem, etc. as long as it included some type of words, I chose to make a Powerpoint style presentation and included pictures and what their significance to the word "home" meant to me. I enjoyed the sentimental aspect of this project since my senior year is now wrapping up. It was nice to reflect, If I could go back and redo the assignment I probably would have selected more photos. I do, however, feel the assignment helped me by introducing me to different ways of expressing my ideas.
The last writing example listed on this page is from my second semester of my junior year. The essay was an argumentative essay written on the idea of arming teachers in schools. This was one of my favorite papers to write and I feel it exhibits my skills as a writer the best out of any of my work. I love debate and this paper was a written debate for me. Since I feel so strongly about the subject I feel I put some of my best work down also. I would like to write more like this in the future on all my papers.
